Pastor Joel   Rev. Joel B. Guillemette

Joel became our senior pastor in July 2006. Three pastoral appointments in Silk Hope, NC; Bath, ME; and Concord, NH, preceded his coming to Sudbury UMC.

As a member of the New England Conference, most of Joel’s service has been in the areas of clergy recruitment, development, and credentialing. In Maine and New Hampshire, he served as a mentor to local pastors in their first years of ministry. In New Hampshire, he was a member of the District Committee on Ordained Ministry. And for ten years, Joel served on the New England Conference Board of Ordained Ministry, leading the Board as one of its two co-chairpersons from 2000 to 2004. Since 2005, he has directed the Conference’s Licensing School for new local pastors. In 2008, he was elected to serve as a clergy member of the Conference’s Committee on Investigation.

In Sudbury, Joel has enjoyed serving on the Health Advisory Committee at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School where he has collaborated with teachers, administrators, parents, and other community leaders to address rising levels of stress in students’ lives. In 2008, Joel was invited to advocate for affordable housing in our town by serving as a trustee for the Sudbury Housing Trust. And since 2006, Joel has participated regularly in the meetings and programs of Sudbury’s monthly roundtable for religious professionals. Joel is a graduate of Gordon College in Wenham, MA, and the Divinity School at Duke University in Durham, NC. He and his spouse, Wendy, married in 1977 and have been blessed by God with two daughters, two sons-in-law, and four grandchildren.
