Music for children at Sudbury United Methodist is presented through collaboration with the Sunday School program.

Most Sundays, the Sunday School begins with a 10 minute music assembly.   Children ages 3 – 5 work with one teacher on age-appropriate songs. The first grade to sixth grade group sings with the music director or the choir director.   The music choices may come from the Sunday School curriculum, from seasonal favorites, or from well-known selections in the Methodist tradition.

No matter what the music is, we try to emphasize the fun of singing together. Through enjoyable get-togethers we attempt to give some basic training in rehearsal techniques and quality singing.   We have a standing “date” to sing in the first Sunday of each month for the congregation.

Please encourage your children to come and join us!  You can start learning the songs from the audio archives on this web site.

REPEAT

Listen to the bass, it’s the one on the bottom
Where the bullfrog croaks and the hippopotamus
Moans and groans with a big to do
And the old cow just goes “moo”.
The dogs and the cats they take up the middle,
While the honeybee hums and the cricket fiddles,
The donkey brays and the pony neighs
And the old coyote howls.

All God’s critters …

Listen to the top where the little birds sing
On the melodies with the high notes ringing,
The hoot owl hollers over everything
And the jaybird disagrees.
Singing in the night time, singing in the day,
The little duck quacks, then he’s on his way,
The ‘possum ain’t got much to say,
And the porcupine talks to himself.

All God’s critters …

(instrumental])

It’s a simple song of living sung everywhere
By the ox and the fox and the grizzly bear,
The grumpy alligator and the hawk above,
The sly raccoon and the turtle dove.

All God’s critters … [2x]

Hosanna to the King (Mantos y Palmas)

Hosanna to the King

(Mantos y palmas)

UMH 279

Filled with excitement, all the happy throng

spread cloaks and branches on the city streets.

There in the distance they began to see,

riding on a donkey comes the Son of God.

From every corner a thousand voices sing

praises to him who comes in the name of God.

With one great shout of acclamation loud

triumphant song breaks forth:

“Hosanna to the King!”

I am the church

I am the church

Words and Music by Richard K. Avery and Donald S. Marsh, 1972

REFRAIN: I am the church
You are the church
We are the church together
All who follow Jesus, all across the world
Yes, we’re the church together.

1. The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple,
the church is not a resting place, the church is a people.

2. We’re many kinds of people, with many kinds of faces,
all colors and all ages, too, from all times and places.

3. Sometimes the church is marching, sometimes it’s bravely burning,
sometimes it’s riding, sometimes hiding, always it’s learning.

4. And when the people gather, there’s singing and there’s praying,
there’s laughing and there’s crying sometimes, all of it saying:

5. At Pentecost some people received the Holy Spirit
and told the Good News through the world to all who would hear it.

Into my heart

Into my heart, Lord Jesus
Into my heart, into my heart, shine into my heart Lord Jesus, shine in today, shine in always, shine into my heart, Lord Jesus.
Out of my heart, out of my heart, shine out of my heart Lord Jesus, shine out today, shine out always, shine out of my heart, Lord Jesus

Jacob’s Ladder

We are climbing Jacob’s ladder [3x]Children of the Lord.
Every rung goes higher, higher [3x]Children of the Lord.
if you love Him, why not serve Him? [3x]Children of the Lord

Sanna sannanina

South African traditional

refrain:
Sanna sannanina, sanna, sanna, sanna
Sanna sannanina, sanna, sanna, sanna
Sanna, sanna, sanna, sannanina
Sanna, sanna, sanna.
Sanna, sanna, sanna, sannanina
Sanna, sanna, sanna.

1. “Hosanna in the highest”, the little children sang;
Through pillared court and temple, the joyful anthem rang
The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state,
Nor scorned that little children should on his bidding wait.

refrain

2. “Hosanna in the highest”, that ancient song we sing,
For Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of Heaven, our King.
O may we ever praise Him, with heart and life and voice,
and in His blissful presence eternally rejoice.

refrain

Sanna sannanina, sanna, sanna, sanna
Sanna sannanina, sanna, sanna, sanna
Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest!
