Thunder in the desert! “Prepare for God’s arrival! Make the road straight and smooth, a highway fit for our God. Fill in the valleys, level off the hills, Smooth out the ruts, clear out the rocks. Then God’s bright glory will shine and everyone will see it. Yes. Just as God has said.” – Isaiah 40:3-5, The Message
It’s nearing the middle of December. In just a couple of weeks Christmas Eve will be here. Some of you might have had your shopping done by November, and others plan to give sustainable gifts through organizations like Heifer, Church World Service or the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Radio stations are playing Christmas music, storefronts are decorated like snowy wonderlands, and our schedules seem to be filling up with parties and activities and for some, long hours at work.
In our attempt to stay awake for all the demands the season brings, have we perhaps fallen asleep to the reason we are celebrating the season? Who and what is it we are anticipating and preparing for? How can we “Make the road straight and smooth, a highway fit for our God.”?
Today, what will you do to prepare for God’s arrival?
