The Sudbury Savoyards, a community theatre group that specializes in Gilbert & Sullivan was formed in 1961 by SUMC Members to raise funds to construct our Church buildings. As an ecumenical community outreach effort of SUMC, the Sudbury Savoyards have for the past 30+ years donated their net profits annually to The United Methodist Committee on Relief, for world hunger relief
SUMC sponsors Boy Scout Troop 60 and Cub Scout Pack 60. Troop 60 is a boy led troop. The scouts camp-out or participate in another Troop activity every month of the year, and attend a week-long camp every summer. Pack 60 is for boys from grades 1-5. They are organized into dens and meet once or twice a month.
Greenwood United Methodist Church is SUMC’s sister church in Dorchester. The two church communities enjoy gathering for various projects and activities. Teams of people from the Sudbury church help out each Monday with the Shalom After School Program at the Greenwood church.
We hold four gatherings each year:
- The Harvest Meal and Worship Service held at Greenwood
- The Winter Barn Sing and meal held at Sudbury UMC.
- We celebrate Black History Month in February, at both Greenwood and SUMC alternating locations each year.
- The Summer Picnic also alternates locations and has been held at SUMC and in city parks in Boston.
This partnership with Greenwood United Methodist Church is important to us, and we are proud to celebrate this longstanding connection.
For 34 years SUMC has had a relationship with the people of the Windward Island of Dominica in the Caribbean. We have raised funds, and sent mission groups to build, and we have grown together in the process. We work with the Ebenezer Wesley Methodist Church and the Zion Marigot Church as well as the Marigot Preschool.
