The Rev. Joel B. Guillemette: Pastor Joel became the lead pastor of Sudbury UMC in July 2006. Before coming to the Metrowest area, he had served churches in Silk Hope, NC; Bath, ME; and Concord, NH.
Joel grew up in Lowell, MA, not far from Sudbury. After graduating from Lowell High School, he earned a degree in English from Gordon College, served two congregations as a Christian educator, dabbled in floral design, and finally said yes to God’s call to pastoral ministry.
While studying at Duke University’s Divinity School, Pastor Joel served three United Methodist churches in the Silk Hope Charge. In Bath, ME, he helped his congregation to decide to build a new church. In Concord, NH, he was part of a team that launched a contemporary worship service. At Sudbury UMC, Pastor Joel has led us through two cycles of planning and implementation. A study leave in 2010 renewed his passion for emerging styles of worship.
Pastor Joel’s service in the New England Conference has focused on preparing new pastors for ministry. In Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts he has mentored several beginning pastors. For ten years he participated in the Board of Ordained Ministry, co-chairing it for four years. In 2014 he completed a ten-year run as director of the Conference’s Local Pastors Licensing School.
Pastor Joel and Wendy were married in 1977 at Wendy’s home church on Long Island, NY. Their two daughters are married to great guys and have filled their family with seven grandchildren!
